How to Sell Coaching Packages Without ThriveCart

To understand how to sell coaching packages without ThriveCart, separate the purchase from the service it funds. A checkout needs an accurate price and payment arrangement. A coaching package also needs agreed scope, actual access, usable booking instructions and a clear response when payment or delivery goes wrong.

We build Coachful. Coachful is our #1 recommendation for a practice that wants its saved Offer, coaching resources and client delivery in one workspace. This is our editorial workflow choice, not a claim that it replaces every checkout configuration, financial service, procurement process or legal review.

The worked example below follows a fictional six-month package through purchase, a missing resource, a failed installment and a misleading completion message. Three sessions remain at the review date. Collecting the price does not erase those obligations or establish the client’s career result.

Decide what actually needs replacing

ThriveCart’s current official Split Pay guide distinguishes a finite series of equal monthly payments from an ongoing subscription. It also describes limited subscriptions for other arrangements. Moving platforms is therefore a workflow decision; it should not begin with the inaccurate claim that ThriveCart cannot sell a coaching payment plan.

List what your practice currently uses: checkout, receipts, payment schedules, affiliate arrangements, course access and client communications. Mark the parts you need for the next package. If an essential arrangement is unsupported in the proposed route, retain an appropriate alternative rather than promising a complete replacement.

QuestionEvidence needed before switching
How will the buyer pay?The actual saved currency, total, schedule and connected payment arrangement.
What will they receive?Named sessions and resources, with actual inclusions and access checked.
What already exists elsewhere?Existing buyers, remaining payments, records and promised delivery.
What would prevent this sale?A required capability or procurement route that is not ready.

A practice can stop sending new buyers to ThriveCart while keeping existing arrangements there. That is a staged change, not a completed historical migration. Do not cancel an account, recreate a subscription or tell a client to buy again merely because a new Offer is ready.

Write a package a buyer can understand

Begin with the service rather than the payment button. Describe who it serves, the decision or behavior the client wants to work on, what the coach supplies and what remains the client’s responsibility. A package can support career planning without guaranteeing a promotion or an employer’s decision.

Specify session duration and quantity, scheduling expectations, included resources, communication boundaries and the service period. “Six months of support” leaves too much open if one person expects weekly advice and the other intends six meetings with brief preparation.

In the fictional case, Sana is the coach, Hugo handles authorized sales and access administration, and Ezra is buying personal career coaching. Ezra already has a client account from an earlier free fit conversation. That account does not itself grant the new paid package.

Package termSana’s agreed scope
Period2 November 2026 through 30 April 2027.
SessionsSix individual sixty-minute career-coaching sessions, scheduled by agreement.
PreparationAn original decision-preparation Form and selected reading resources.
Between sessionsOne brief coaching question per calendar week by email, answered within two working days.
ExcludedUnlimited chat, employer representation, document rewriting and a guaranteed job or promotion.

Working days for this example mean Monday through Friday, with replies due by 17:00 Europe/London on the second working day after receipt. The published calendar identifies any closures. Billing and access problems have a separate administrative contact; reporting one does not use up the weekly coaching question.

The agreement gives access to the selected preparation and readings through 30 April. Sana will check the relevant grants at the end; the written date is not a promise of automatic deletion. Ezra may keep the original reading files he is expressly permitted to download. Ending online access would not erase those copies.

Hugo can resolve the payment record or access problem. He cannot read private coaching reflections merely because he helps with billing. Agree information handling with the client and relevant staff. The ICF Code of Ethics addresses clear agreements, roles, confidentiality and accurate professional claims.

Choose a fixed price, finite plan or renewing service

For this package, pay in full is £1,800 GBP. The alternative is three monthly payments of £650 GBP, totaling £1,950 GBP. Both purchase the same defined service. The £150 difference is visible before purchase; the smaller first charge is not presented as the complete package price.

The three-payment option is a finite arrangement for a fixed package. It does not renew each month indefinitely. A different offer of ongoing monthly coaching would need its own scope, renewal, cancellation and payment terms. Neither arrangement should borrow the other’s description because its checkout looks similar.

ChoiceDue arrangementTotal
Pay in fullOne payment at purchase.£1,800 GBP.
Finite payment plan£650 at purchase, then £650 on each of the next two monthly dates.£1,950 GBP.
Ongoing subscriptionNot offered for Ezra’s package. No renewing charge is authorized by this example.

These are fictional final buyer prices, with no additional tax or setup charge added in the example. They are not suggested market rates. Your tax treatment and any legal requirements for offering payment terms need review for the actual transaction; a configurable plan is not a legal certification.

Do not calculate affordability from the first installment alone. The buyer should be able to compare the whole commitment, timing and consequences of stopping. For a different currency, check the actual configured selling price and payment option rather than converting a number in the page copy.

Configure the Offer’s actual delivery

Open Sell > Offers and create the package. A template can help with the wording and initial defaults, but inspect everything it filled. The builder may prefill a first available session type. That is a reason to check the saved type, not to assume the intended career session was selected.

In What they get, Sana chooses the actual sixty-minute career-coaching session and sets its quantity to six for the offer. She checks the selected resources separately. An Additional benefits line describes a promise; it does not by itself grant a resource, create session credits or activate unlimited private messaging.

The agreed brief email follow-up is a manual service boundary. Sana leaves private chat and main community access off in this Offer. She does not attach a group Program simply to make the package appear more substantial. If your package genuinely includes one, select it deliberately and verify its enrollment and schedule.

Configure the actual selling currency and price under Price & sharing. In the Advanced editor, eligible fixed one-time nonphysical Offers expose Payment options after a price is set. Check the editor available in your workspace; do not assume every Simple new-offer screen has an identical payment-plan control.

Sana saves the £1,800 full price and the enabled three-payment £1,950 option, with no setup fee or down payment beyond the first installment. She checks the buyer summary and dates, not just the internal name of the plan. Connected payouts must be ready before a paid Offer is published.

Coachful demo coaching offers with different service formats
Illustrative Offers with three live examples and one draft. These demo formats and prices are not Ezra’s saved package or proof that a checkout has completed.

Use a short comparison before publishing. First, read the promise aloud without the product title: would a client know the quantity and boundaries? Second, compare every promised item with its saved inclusion or explicit manual delivery responsibility. Third, compare the full-pay and plan totals with the agreement. Fourth, open the buyer route and identify who will respond if it fails.

For Sana, this comparison would have exposed the missing Form before sale. The sales copy was not the missing part; the access configuration was. Rewriting the benefits more persuasively would have increased the discrepancy. The repair therefore needs a real grant and verified client opening, not another reassuring description.

A payment-option link selects an available saved option and currency. It does not override the server’s price or freeze a disabled plan into existence. Reopen the intended link after a material configuration change and check what a buyer can currently select.

Agree the terms before collecting the payment

Sana sends Ezra a separate agreement for this exact package and payment choice. They resolve his question about rescheduling before he signs on 30 October. Sana checks the completed signed record and gives him his copy before sending the purchase link for 2 November. A draft, sent link or verbal intention would not establish that signature.

This is a deliberately checked sequence, not a claim that sharing an agreement automatically blocks every booking or checkout. A configured funnel agreement gate is a separate workflow. Keep the agreement record, purchase record and actual access states distinct even when the client experiences them as one welcome.

GOV.UK’s online-selling guidance provides a UK example of clear payment obligations, total prices, correctable orders, retainable terms and confirmation. It separately discusses digital-content consent. Do not treat logging into a workbook as a universal waiver of service-cancellation rights.

Have the actual terms reviewed for the service, buyer and jurisdiction. Include cancellation, rescheduling, missed payments, refunds, service-ending arrangements and the handling of remaining sessions. This worked route does not establish that every drafted clause is enforceable or that stopping a schedule necessarily ends every contractual obligation.

For the agreement structure, see coaching agreement templates and tools. For the money terms, use the payment-terms guide. They address decisions the checkout cannot make on your behalf.

Which one looks like you?

Coachful builds your coaching website from a few answers, in a design chosen for your niche, with programs, booking and payments ready behind it.

Build your platform

Test the purchase and the first usable action

Before inviting a buyer, use the available preview and authorized test route to examine the service name, currency, payment choice, total, agreement sequence, confirmation and first action. A successful visual preview is not proof that a real payment or access grant occurred.

Check on a narrow screen, with enlarged text and keyboard navigation. W3C’s accessibility design guidance emphasizes associated labels, visible focus and understandable feedback. A price difference should be expressed in words and amounts, with a clear error explanation if a choice cannot proceed.

In the fictional purchase, Ezra chooses the finite plan on 2 November. The authoritative purchase and payment records confirm the first £650, and the included session allowance is present. Hugo sends the welcome with the booking route and preparation link. He initially treats that sent message as successful onboarding.

Ezra replies that the preparation link opens an inaccessible staff preview. On checking, Hugo also finds that Sana described the Form in Additional benefits but omitted its actual resource inclusion. The paid session allowance exists; the promised preparation does not yet have the client grant it needs.

Hugo acknowledges both errors. That day he deliberately assigns the original Form through Clients > client > Worksheets & resources/Assign and sends its private client-access link. Ezra opens the corrected route on 3 November and submits his preparation. Hugo verifies that response rather than inferring access from his own staff preview.

Hugo’s corrected welcome supplies the route Ezra actually uses. Its original wording is:

Your first £650 payment is confirmed under the three-payment arrangement totaling £1,950. The remaining monthly payments are due on 2 December and 2 January. This is the fixed six-session package through 30 April, with no monthly renewal.

I sent the wrong preparation link and had not checked your resource access. I have now granted the decision-preparation Form. Please use the private client link in this message. Your six included sixty-minute career sessions are separate from completing that Form; use the booking route below to arrange the first one.

For the agreed brief coaching question, email support@sana.example. For a payment, access or scheduling problem, reply here so I can check the actual record. Those administrative questions do not use your weekly coaching question.

The links in that fictional message refer to the practice’s checked client and booking routes, not public links reproduced here. The .example email is illustrative. Ezra’s subsequent opening and preparation response establish receipt of this resource route; they do not show that every client will find every future resource.

A standalone assigned Form does not automatically appear in My Coaching’s next-action list. This repair uses the granted client link. Sana corrects the resource inclusion for future buyers separately; she does not assume changing the public Offer retroactively repairs Ezra’s already purchased access.

The welcome now gives a usable order: open the preparation, book an included career session, and use the stated email address for questions. Ezra books and attends his first sixty-minute session on 16 November. His earlier email question on 10 November at 11:00 is answered on 12 November at 16:00, one hour before the agreed deadline; he reads it on 13 November.

Recover the existing installment without another purchase

Ezra’s next £650 is due on 2 December. It fails. Hugo checks the actual purchase, payment-plan status and connected payment record before responding. A past-due balance is not a second sale, and the screen’s return from checkout would not establish collection.

Where the client’s payment-plan details provide Update card, that route opens the appropriate connected-account portal. Ezra uses it on 3 December. Updating the card is a step toward recovery, not proof of payment; Hugo waits for the original installment invoice to show the recovered £650 and reconciles the plan.

Date and eventCollected to dateStill scheduled or unpaid
2 November: first payment succeeds.£650.£1,300.
2 December: second payment fails.£650.£650 overdue and £650 future.
3 December: original second installment is recovered.£1,300.£650 future.
2 January 2027: final installment succeeds.£1,950.£0 under this plan.

Hugo does not create another Offer purchase, use a free grant to conceal the debt or record the same receipt as additional revenue. If a recovery remains unknown or processing, he investigates that existing attempt. He does not assume repeated charging is harmless.

Check any actual past-due access deadline rather than inventing a universal grace period. This case establishes recovery on 3 December before any access restriction took effect. It does not promise that all failed plans preserve access indefinitely or that updating a card always succeeds.

Coachful demo Payments view showing two paid records
Illustrative paid records in the Payments view. Ezra’s existing installment and service balance must be reconciled against their actual records; these demo amounts are unrelated.

Separate appointment changes from package ending

Ezra cancels a 7 December appointment within the agreed notice period and reschedules it to 14 December. Sana confirms that the same second session remains available. This appointment change does not cancel the package or its payment plan. Nor would canceling a recurring collection arrangement automatically decide a refund dispute.

If the client instead asks to stop the service, acknowledge the actual request and inspect the agreement, applicable rights, delivered work and outstanding money. Confirm what happens to future charges, unused sessions and access separately. Refer a dispute or uncertain legal question appropriately rather than treating a dashboard button as a complete settlement.

Keep future changes equally clear. On 18 December Sana drafts a new package with an optional workshop. Ezra has not bought it. Its public description does not add a workshop to his existing arrangement, authorize a new charge or replace the text he signed.

Signed agreements retain their signed text. Updating a template can refresh eligible uncustomized pending unsigned copies when that option is selected, so inspect the actual version and recipient status. Do not rely on a blanket claim that every previously issued unsigned copy remains unchanged.

Reconcile money collected and service still owed

After the final payment, Hugo sends an erroneous message on 4 January: “Your package is complete.” Ezra replies that only two sessions have taken place. Hugo checks the record and apologizes on 5 January. He explains that the three-payment collection is complete, while four of the six sessions remain at that point. Ezra reads and acknowledges that correction that day.

The third sixty-minute session is then held on 11 January. At the 12 January review, the six-session account is three completed, one reserved for 8 February and two still available to arrange. The categories total six; the reserved session is part of the remaining three, not an additional entitlement.

The £1,950 is gross collected money, not profit or evidence that the work is finished. The three completed sessions represent 180 live coaching minutes. Preparation, the fit conversation, billing work, access repair, email replies and receiving time are outside that narrow live total and have not been measured as a whole cost here.

Three future sessions and the remaining defined follow-up still need delivery. The last weekly question can be submitted by noon on 28 April, with an answer by 30 April at 17:00; those dates and the final access review are future at the January cutoff. No final outcome or whole-package workload is claimed.

Sana also has four older ThriveCart buyers with their existing delivery and payment arrangements. She keeps those records and obligations there during this stage. The account is not closed, historical payments have not been imported and no subscription-cost saving is claimed.

A separate corporate prospect, Marta, requires a purchase order and a differently named contracting payer. Hugo pauses that proposal before asking her to buy personally. The required procurement route and authority remain unresolved. It is a declined self-serve route for now, not a successful corporate sale hidden inside Ezra’s numbers.

Explore Coachful’s features against the package you actually intend to deliver. A workable alternative connects an understandable promise with verified payment, usable access and an accurate account of what is still owed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sell a coaching package without a separate cart?

Yes, when the chosen Offer and payment route support the arrangement you need. Verify the actual saved inclusions, prices, terms and client access. An attractive service page alone is not a functioning purchase and delivery process.

Is a three-payment package a monthly subscription?

It is a finite payment arrangement when it purchases a defined package and stops after its scheduled payments. Ongoing coaching that renews is a different agreement. State the total and duration clearly rather than using the same label for both.

Does a template choose the correct session?

Do not assume so. A first available type may be prefilled. Check the actual saved type, quantity and resources against the agreement before selling, including whether a described benefit needs a separate real inclusion.

What if an installment fails?

Inspect the original purchase and current payment status. Use its supported recovery route and verify collection. Avoid a duplicate purchase or guessed manual receipt; access restrictions, payment terms and any disputed rights need their own review.

Can I close ThriveCart immediately?

Only after the actual remaining arrangements and records have been resolved appropriately. In this example the older account stays open for four buyers. New sales elsewhere do not establish that their payment plans or delivery have moved.
