Best App for Personal Trainers in 2026: 5 Compared

Best App for Personal Trainers in 2026: 5 Compared

The best app for personal trainers is the one that runs your whole client week from a single login: the booking, the payment, the signed agreement, the program, the workout log and the check-in that tells you who is slipping. Most trainers do not fail at software because a tool lacks a feature. They fail because the workout app, the booking link, the payment processor and the group chat never talk to each other, and Sunday night disappears into copying data between them. So the deciding question is simple: how many separate apps will your clients need to open between sessions, and how many will you pay for?

Our pick is Coachful, because it puts workout programming, booking, payments, agreements, habits, check-ins, group programs and a website into one membership, with one branded app for the client. We make Coachful, so weigh our view accordingly; this guide states what each vendor documents and what public reviewers report, and it says plainly where the other four apps are the better fit.

Instead of starting with a list, this guide starts with five questions about your practice. Answer them, use the table that maps answers to apps, then read the sections for the two or three apps your answers point to. Costs at 5, 15 and 40 clients, and the switching costs nobody mentions on a pricing page, come after the reviews.

Which five questions decide the right app for your training business?

Five answers settle most of the decision: where you train, how many clients you carry, whether you sell group programs, how clients pay and sign, and where new clients come from. Write your answers down before you open a single pricing page, because every vendor's page is designed to make its strongest feature feel like your biggest need.

  1. Do you train clients in person, online, or a mix? In-person trainers live in their calendar: session packs, buffers between clients, late-cancel rules and reminders. Online trainers live in the program: workouts, logs, form checks and weekly check-ins. Hybrid trainers need both to share one client record, or they end up with two half-complete pictures of the same person.
  2. How many active clients will you have in twelve months, not today? Per-client pricing looks cheap at five clients and very different at forty. Count the clients you plan to have, including people on maintenance plans who only log workouts.
  3. Do you sell anything to a group? A six-week strength block, a summer challenge or a small-group program needs cohorts, a shared feed and one checkout. Apps built for one-to-one programming often handle groups by duplicating a program to each client.
  4. How do clients pay you, and what must they sign first? If you sell session packs, monthly online coaching or payment plans, payments should sit inside the app rather than in a separate invoicing tool. If you need a signed agreement or liability terms before session one, check whether e-signature is built in.
  5. Where do new clients come from? If every client comes from the gym floor or referrals, a booking link may be all the marketing you need. If you want strangers to find you, you need a website, a booking or application funnel and follow-up email, which is often another two or three subscriptions.

One more question sits underneath all five: do you need data from wearables? If a client's Garmin, Fitbit or Whoop data drives your programming, put that requirement first and check each vendor's current integration list before anything else, because it rules apps in or out on its own.

Thinking of launching your coaching business?

Answer a few questions and Coachful builds it around you: your website, programs, booking and payments. Ready in minutes.

Build your platform

Which app matches your answers?

We ranked on four things that matter most once you pass a handful of clients: one login for the whole client journey, what the client gets between sessions, total stack cost after add-ons, and setup effort, including whether someone will build it for you.

AppAnswers that point hereWhy it fitsMain trade-off
CoachfulHybrid or online; 10+ clients; group programs; payments and agreements in-app; you want a website and emailWorkouts, nutrition, booking, payments, contracts, community, website and email in one membership and one client appNo wearable sync and no stock exercise videos; you film your own demos
ABC TrainerizeMostly online; workout depth is the priority; you already have a website elsewhereDedicated fitness programming app with workouts, habits, nutrition tracking and messaging; tiers from 1 to 200 clientsScheduling, payments, video and advanced nutrition are paid add-ons below Studio
EverfitFive or fewer clients today; online programming; tight budgetStarter plan costs nothing for up to 5 clients; Pro scales by client countAutomation, payments and meal plans are add-ons; no website, courses or email
Practice BetterYou also do nutrition or wellness work that needs charting and telehealthPractice management with scheduling, billing, programs and a client portalBuilt for practitioners, not sets and reps; branding and SMS start on Plus
TrueCoachStrength programming only; you book and bill elsewhereFocused programming app priced by active-client capNo contracts, courses, community or website per older profile data; no scheduling on its pricing feature list

If most of your answers land in the first row, you can skip ahead to the Coachful section and the worked setup. If you answered "online only, programming is everything, fewer than five clients", read the Everfit and Trainerize sections first.

How did we rank these apps?

We pictured one realistic practice and asked what each app would cost and require for it: a trainer with 15 active clients, split between in-person sessions sold in packs and online clients on a monthly plan, who also runs one six-week group strength program twice a year. That trainer needs workouts and logging, booking with reminders, payments, a signed agreement, weekly check-ins and a place for the group to talk.

We did not run hands-on trials of every app for this guide. Vendor facts come from each vendor's pricing and feature pages as listed in October 2026; points marked "older profile" come from our September 2026 research notes and may have changed. Trustpilot scores are as seen on October 25, 2026. We left out apps that are only schedulers or only course platforms; our guide to scheduling software for personal trainers covers the booking-only tools, and our wider roundup of fitness coaching software covers eight platforms.

A note on scope before the reviews. Personal training is not medical treatment, and no app changes that. Screen new clients with a health questionnaire, and refer anyone who reports chest pain, dizziness, a recent injury, a condition under a doctor's care or signs of disordered eating to their physician, a physiotherapist or a registered dietitian before you program for them. The US Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans are a useful public baseline for activity recommendations, and the overview of the personal trainer role describes the usual boundaries of the job.

1. Coachful: one login for training, booking and billing

Coachful is a coaching platform that covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant, with one login for the coach and one branded app for the client. It is built for coaches who deliver programs rather than just sessions, solo coaches growing into a small team, and anyone replacing four to six separate tools. For a personal trainer, the Fitness & Nutrition pack adds the training-specific layer on top.

What the trainer's week looks like inside it

The Fitness & Nutrition pack gives you a workout builder with an exercise library of illustrated exercises and the formats trainers actually write: supersets, circuits, AMRAP, EMOM, intervals and tempo prescriptions. Clients log their workouts in the app, and each exercise keeps a set history with personal records, so you can see whether last week's squat progression held. You attach your own demonstration videos to exercises, which keeps your cueing in your voice.

Nutrition sits next to training rather than in another app. You can set nutrition targets up to calories and macros, share meal plans and recipes, and clients can look up foods or scan a barcode. Clients upload private progress photos and measurements, answer weekly check-ins, and send private form-check videos that you comment on at specific timestamps. Challenges give a group something to chase together.

The demo client dashboard: ten clients with status tags and insights such as task completion and check-in rate.

Every client has one record: goals, check-ins, habits, notes, intake answers, tags, payments and sessions, plus an AI briefing before you meet. Each client carries a status of thriving, active, quiet or at risk, which is the list you want on Monday morning when you decide who gets a message first.

Booking and payments without a second tool

Booking pages support availability rules, buffers between sessions, minimum notice and time-zone detection, with two-way sync to Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook calendars. Online sessions can use built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links. Email reminders are standard, and once messaging is enabled you can add an SMS reminder 24 hours before and a WhatsApp reminder one hour before. Session credits handle the classic ten-pack, and intake questions can be asked at the moment of booking.

Payments run through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account: one-time sales, subscriptions for monthly online coaching, payment plans, order bumps, coupons, refunds, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and Stripe Tax. Since August 2026 Coachful charges a 0% platform fee, so the only deduction is Stripe's or Razorpay's processing. Each transaction produces an invoice, and you can send manual invoices too.

Coaching agreements with e-signature go out before the first call and are stored on the client record. Many trainers put their liability terms in that agreement; have a lawyer check the wording for your location.

Programs, check-ins and groups between sessions

Multi-week programs carry weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins, goals with progress bars and streaks. That is the layer that keeps an online client training on the days you are not watching. When someone enrolls in a group program, a cohort group is created for them automatically, with a community feed, group chat, direct messages and video events.

This short walkthrough shows how programs are built and delivered inside Coachful:

The marketing side lives in the same account: a section-based website builder with 30 designed homepage templates, a blog, custom domain and SEO settings; booking, application, lead-magnet and checkout funnels with pixel and UTM tracking; email lists, broadcasts and multi-step sequences. Michelle, the built-in AI assistant, works from your live practice data to draft programs, emails and content and to brief you before sessions. Questions and planning are included in your Coachful membership; confirmed builds and changes use AI credits.

Where it falls short for trainers

  • No sync with Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura, and Apple Health sync is not publicly available. If wearable data drives your programming, this is a real gap.
  • No stock exercise videos. The library is illustrated, and you attach your own demos.
  • The client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding, not under your own App Store account.
  • Not HIPAA-certified and not for clinical record-keeping or insurance billing.
  • No PayPal; payments run through Stripe or Razorpay.

Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. On every plan, you can open Create > We'll build it for you and describe what you want: a website, a booking funnel, a sales page for a group program, a multi-week program, an email sequence, an intake form or a link-in-bio page. You can attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as your logo, photos or existing copy. The Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours, and leaves gaps for you rather than inventing credentials, testimonials or prices. It does not cover filming videos, logo design or running ads. One recent example: a menopause and midlife health coach starting from nothing received a five-page site in sage and cream with every button leading to a free 20-minute consultation. Read more about the white-glove build service.

Plans are flat monthly prices; lower plans cap the number of clients, Pro is unlimited, team plans add coach seats, and monthly plans cancel in one click (current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients). There is a free trial. See how it fits trainers on the fitness coaches page and the Fitness & Nutrition pack page.

2. ABC Trainerize: a dedicated workout app, if you budget for add-ons

ABC Trainerize is a dedicated fitness programming app with the widest client-tier range in this list, and it gets expensive in a specific way: the base plan covers training, while scheduling, payments, video and advanced nutrition are sold separately below its Studio tier.

ABC Trainerize homepage presenting its personal training and fitness coaching app
ABC Trainerize's homepage in October 2026.

Strengths for an online programming business

Trainerize is built around workouts, habits, nutrition tracking and messaging, priced by client seats. Its tiers run from a single client up to 200 on Pro, and Studio Plus covers 500 or more clients for multi-location businesses. Clients do not pay to use the app. A Pro branded app, which adds your logo and colours to the Trainerize app, is a one-time setup fee of $169 according to its pricing page today.

The add-on arithmetic

As listed in October 2026, Basic costs $0 for 1 client, Grow is $10/month for 2 clients, and Pro starts at $25/month for 5 clients. Its pricing FAQ, read today, says Pro scales to $135/month for up to 50 clients and that annual billing saves 10%. The page we could read did not show the 15-client price, so we have not quoted it. On top of the base, the FAQ lists a Business add-on at $25/month (scheduling, referrals, payments and on-demand coaching), Stripe Integrated Payments at $10/month, Video Coaching at $10/month, and Advanced Nutrition Coaching at $20/month on smaller Pro tiers or $45/month from Pro 30 upward. The 30-day trial includes unlimited clients and no card, but add-ons are not included in the trial, so you cannot test the full stack you would be paying for.

What reviewers and our notes flag

  • No course builder, website, funnels or email marketing.
  • Client data export was incomplete in our September 2026 notes (no messages, photos or attachments), which matters if you ever leave.
  • Trustpilot shows 3.1 from 100 reviews as of October 25, 2026.

Pick it over Coachful if you coach online only, already have a website and email tool you like, want client-seat tiers that start at a single client, or rely on a wearable integration Trainerize supports.

3. Everfit: the low-cost starting point for small rosters

Everfit is the cheapest way to start programming online, because its Starter plan costs nothing for up to five clients. The catch arrives when you want to automate, take payments or share meal plans.

Everfit homepage presenting its online fitness coaching platform
Everfit's homepage in October 2026.

How the pricing scales with your roster

Pricing as listed in October 2026: Starter is $0 for up to 5 clients. Pro starts at $19/month for 5 clients and scales by client count: $29/month for 10, $49/month for 20, $95/month for 50, $140/month for 100 and $290/month for 300, with lower annual equivalents. Studio starts at $105/month for 50 clients and scales to 500. A 30-day trial requires no card and no contract.

Features you get, and the ones you buy

Everfit covers workouts, habits, nutrition and messaging, which is the core of online programming. Its automation feature (Autoflow), payments and meal plans are paid add-ons; their prices are not in the pricing data we reviewed, so budget a few unknowns. There is no course builder, website, funnels or email marketing, so a trainer selling a group challenge to strangers will need extra tools for the sales side.

Public reviews are thin: Trustpilot shows 2.7 from 16 reviews as of October 25, 2026, which is too small a sample to read much into either way.

Pick it over Coachful if you have five or fewer online clients, want to pay nothing while you test demand, and are happy to handle payments and marketing elsewhere for now.

Which one looks like you?

Coachful builds your coaching website from a few answers, in a design chosen for your niche, with programs, booking and payments ready behind it.

4. Practice Better: when training sits beside nutrition or wellness practice

Practice Better is practice-management software for wellness and nutrition practitioners: scheduling, telehealth, charting, billing, programs and a client portal. It suits a trainer who also works as a nutrition professional and needs charting, less so a trainer whose day is sets, reps and session packs.

Practice Better homepage presenting its practice management software for wellness practitioners
Practice Better's homepage in October 2026.

Plans and what each unlocks

As listed in October 2026: Sprout is $0 for 3 clients; Starter is $35/month for 10 clients; Professional is $69/month for 300 clients; Plus is $99/month for unlimited clients and 3 admins; Team is $155/month for 2 practitioners, with more at $50 each. Evergreen programs, portal branding, a custom URL and SMS start on Plus. Trials run 14 days on most paid plans and 30 days on Team, and payments go through Practice Better Payments, powered by Stripe.

Fit for a personal trainer

The charting and telehealth tools are a genuine advantage if you hold a nutrition credential and keep session notes in a clinical format. For training itself, its documented features center on charting, telehealth, billing and programs, and our notes do not list a workout builder or set logging, so check its program tools against how you write training before you commit. Our September 2026 notes found no website builder or funnel pages, and only one practitioner per account below Team. Trustpilot shows 3.8 from 87 reviews as of October 25, 2026. Our Practice Better app guide covers the client side in more detail.

Pick it over Coachful if nutrition practice with charting and telehealth is the larger part of your work, or you need the clinical-style record-keeping Coachful does not provide.

5. TrueCoach: focused strength programming, nothing else

TrueCoach does one job: delivering strength and fitness programs to clients and tracking their training. Everything around the program, from booking to contracts to marketing, happens elsewhere.

TrueCoach homepage presenting its strength and fitness programming app for coaches
TrueCoach's homepage in October 2026.

Who TrueCoach suits

A strength coach with a clear programming method and an existing booking and billing setup will find a tidy tool. Pricing is by active-client cap. As listed in October 2026, annual billing works out to $26.34/month for up to 5 active clients (Starter), $57.99/month for up to 20 (Standard) and $136.99/month for up to 50 (Pro), with custom pricing above that. Monthly-billed prices were not shown in what we reviewed. There is a 14-day trial with no card, and first-time annual subscribers get a 90-day money-back guarantee, with restrictions.

Gaps to plan around

  • Scheduling and booking do not appear on its pricing page feature list.
  • No video calls, contracts, courses, community or website, per our September 2026 notes.
  • Automated payments run through Stripe, and in-app payments were limited to coaches in the US, UK, Canada and Australia in our older notes.
  • Trustpilot shows 2.4 from 19 reviews as of October 25, 2026.

Pick it over Coachful if you only want a programming tool, already book and bill through software you like, and do not run group programs or need a website.

Which features does each app include?

The matrix below shows what each app documents for a personal trainer's core jobs. "Partial" means the feature exists but costs extra, sits on a higher tier, or covers only part of the job; "Not listed" means we found no documentation either way.

The pattern is clear. The fitness-first apps are strong in the first three columns and thin on the right side of the table, which is exactly where a growing trainer's admin time goes. If you want to dig into the client app question specifically, our guide to custom branded coaching apps explains what "branded" means across vendors.

What does each app cost at 5, 15 and 40 clients?

Base prices hide the real number, so the table below shows the plan each roster size needs as listed in October 2026, plus the add-ons a trainer who books and bills inside the app would need. Payment processing fees apply on top for every app.

App5 clients15 clients40 clientsNot included in that price

Then add the tools the fitness apps leave out. A trainer using one of them still needs a website, an email tool, a scheduler if bookings are not covered, and an e-signature tool. Each of those is its own subscription, its own login and its own client list to keep in sync. Our breakdown of app-only versus live-call pricing helps you set what you charge once you know what the software costs you, and what online fitness coaches earn gives context for that number.

How would a 15-client trainer set this up in Coachful?

Here is the scenario from our ranking, built step by step: 15 clients, a mix of in-person session packs and monthly online coaching, plus a six-week group strength program. The names and numbers below are examples, not recommendations.

A laptop showing a monthly session calendar on a studio desk beside a stopwatch and a foam roller
Coachful's monthly sessions calendar on a laptop beside a stopwatch and a foam roller.
  1. Bring your clients in. Clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding, so the roster, past notes and existing programs arrive in one place. Turn on the Fitness & Nutrition pack.
  2. Set up two session types. For example, a 60-minute in-person session with a 15-minute buffer and 12 hours' minimum notice, and a 30-minute online check-in call with an auto-created Zoom or Meet link. Connect your Google, Apple or Outlook calendar so gym-floor bookings and personal plans never collide; our guide to avoiding double bookings across calendars covers the details.
  3. Create the offers. A ten-session pack sold as session credits, a monthly subscription for online coaching, and the group program with a payment plan option, all paid into your own Stripe account.
  4. Attach the paperwork. Add a coaching agreement with e-signature that goes out before the first session, and intake questions on booking for goals, training history and health screening. Anyone whose answers raise a medical flag gets a referral before a program. Our coaching contracts page shows how agreements attach to offers.
  5. Build the program. Six weeks, each with a weekly goal and three workouts from the builder, using supersets and tempo where you need them and your own demo videos attached. Add two habits such as daily steps and a protein target, a morning check-in for sleep and readiness, and a weekly check-in with progress photos and measurements.
  6. Open the group. When the first client enrolls in the group program, its cohort group is created automatically. Post a week-one challenge in the feed and schedule one group video call per week.
  7. Put it on the web. Pick a performance template for the website, add a booking funnel for a free consultation, and add a short welcome email sequence. Or describe it in a white-glove build request and let the team build it in your account. Our guide to what to put on a personal trainer website lists what to include and what to skip.

What the client experiences. A new client finds your site, books a consultation, answers your intake questions and signs the agreement before you meet. After buying, they open your branded home in the app and see today's workout, their habits and their next session. They log sets, see a personal record flagged, and send a 20-second squat video that you answer with a comment at the exact moment their knees cave. They get an email reminder before each session and, once messaging is on, an SMS the day before. Group members land in their cohort feed on enrollment. Everything they do lands on one client record, so your Monday review takes one screen instead of four apps.

For more on what to automate and what to keep personal in that flow, read which onboarding steps to automate.

What red flags and switching costs should you watch for?

The cost of a training app shows up twice: once on the monthly bill and once on the day you leave. Check these before you sign up, not after a year of client history piles up.

  • Per-client tiers that jump. A plan that fits 5 clients today may need two upgrades within a year. Price your 12-month roster, not today's.
  • Features that look included but are add-ons. Scheduling, payments, video calls and meal plans are separate purchases on several fitness apps. A free trial that excludes add-ons tests the wrong product.
  • Payments limited by country or processor. If in-app payments only work in certain countries, or force a specific processor, check that before you move recurring subscriptions.
  • Incomplete data export. Ask what the export includes. Workout history, messages, progress photos and notes are the parts that hurt to lose. Coachful exports the full client data as a ZIP, including roster, notes, check-ins, goals, habits, sessions and form responses.
  • Exercise video lock-in. If you rely on a vendor's stock videos, leaving means re-filming or re-sourcing demos. Your own videos travel with you.
  • Annual-only discounts and narrow guarantees. Money-back guarantees often apply only to first-time annual subscribers, and some vendors give no refunds for mid-period cancellations.
  • Health-data expectations. None of the apps here should be treated as a medical record unless the vendor states compliance and signs the right agreement. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified.
  • The client re-download cost. Every switch asks clients to install a new app, log in again and relearn where things are. Moving once, to a tool that covers the next three years, is cheaper than moving twice.

Which app should you choose?

For most trainers who combine in-person and online clients, sell even one group program, and want to stop paying for a separate scheduler, invoicing tool, e-signature tool and website, Coachful is the best app for personal trainers on our four criteria: one login for the whole client journey, strong delivery between sessions, a lower total stack, and a free white-glove build to get set up. Its honest gaps are wearable sync and stock exercise videos; if either is essential, check the current integration and video lists of the fitness-first apps before you decide.

Choose Everfit if you have five or fewer online clients and want to start at zero cost. Choose Practice Better if nutrition charting and telehealth are central to your practice. Choose TrueCoach if programming is the only job you want software to do. If you are still deciding what kind of trainer business to build, fitness coach versus personal trainer is a good place to start, and you can compare more platforms on our comparison hub.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best app for personal trainers in 2026?

For trainers who want booking, payments, agreements, workouts, nutrition, check-ins and group programs in one place, we recommend Coachful. If you only need workout programming and already have other tools for booking and billing, ABC Trainerize or TrueCoach are focused alternatives. Everfit is the lowest-cost start for five or fewer clients.

Is there a personal trainer app that costs nothing?

Yes, with limits. As listed in October 2026, Everfit's Starter plan costs nothing for up to 5 clients, ABC Trainerize's Basic plan covers 1 client, and Practice Better's Sprout plan covers 3. Payments, automation and branding usually require a paid plan or add-on.

Does Coachful sync with Garmin, Fitbit or Apple Health?

No. Coachful does not sync with Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura, and Apple Health sync is not publicly available. Clients log workouts, measurements and check-ins directly in the app.

Can I use my own exercise videos?

In Coachful, yes: the exercise library is illustrated and you attach your own demonstration videos. There are no stock exercise videos, so plan time to film your key movements, or start with the illustrations and add videos over time.

What is Coachful's free white-glove service?

It is a build service included on every plan. You describe what you need, such as a website, a booking funnel, a group program sales page or an email sequence, attach up to 8 links and 10 files, and the Coachful team builds it inside your account, usually within about 24 hours. It does not include filming videos, logo design or ad management.

Can clients pay me inside the app?

In Coachful, payments go through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account, with subscriptions, payment plans, session credits, coupons, Apple Pay and Google Pay. PayPal is not supported. Several fitness apps sell payments as a separate add-on, so check the add-on price before comparing base plans.

Do I need a HIPAA-compliant app as a personal trainer?

Most personal trainers are not covered by HIPAA, but rules depend on your role and location, so check with an attorney if you work alongside clinics or handle medical records. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and is not for clinical record-keeping or insurance billing.

How do I run group training programs and one-to-one clients in the same app?

Look for cohorts tied to enrollment rather than copying a program to each client. In Coachful, enrolling in a group program creates the cohort group automatically, with a feed, group chat and video events, while each member keeps an individual record. Our page on group coaching software shows the setup.

How hard is it to switch training apps later?

It depends on what the old app lets you export. Workout history, messages and progress photos are the hardest to move, and clients need to install a new app. Coachful imports clients, programs and content for you during onboarding.

How do I start with Coachful?

Start a free trial, connect your calendar and Stripe account, and either build your first program from a template or request a white-glove build. Plans are listed on the plans page.
