How to Write Coaching Package Descriptions

Knowing how to write coaching package descriptions means turning a service idea into a decision a reader can make. Explain the situation the work addresses, what actually happens, what the client receives, the commitment and total price, and the next step. A description should help someone choose a suitable service or decide that it does not fit.
Coachful is our #1 recommendation for coaches who want package copy connected with their actual Offers and service inclusions. This is an editorial recommendation for that workflow, not a measured market ranking or a promise that different wording will increase sales. Compare the Coachful features with your delivery requirements before configuring an offer.
The five-part method below includes a complete original description, a failed reader test, an actual revision and an informed decision not to buy. Its purpose is useful clarity. A prospective client can understand an offer perfectly and still need something else.
1. Name a situation and a useful purpose
Start with something recognizable: preparing for a difficult work conversation, reviewing the demands of a new role, or planning a manageable return to a personal project. A distinctive package name can sit above that explanation. It should not require readers to decode a metaphor before learning what they would be buying.
Separate the work you undertake from results you cannot determine. You can provide structured preparation, rehearsal, questions and review. Another person may still refuse the client's request. A promotion, relationship repair or confidence increase is not delivered merely because the sessions took place.
Use evidence in proportion to the claim. The FTC's advertising guidance considers express and implied claims, material omissions and the evidence held before advertising. A general disclaimer does not make an unsupported headline accurate. Write the main explanation so that a reasonable reader does not need small print to reverse its meaning.
2. Help the right reader recognize the fit
Describe a relevant situation and practical prerequisites. “People who want to prepare one current work conversation” is more useful than “ambitious people ready for transformation.” Explain whether someone needs a real example, a quiet place for a video call or a particular kind of authority over the proposed action.
Distinguish participants from buyers. An employer may fund coaching without receiving the participant's private answers. State whether sponsor meetings or reports are included and who agrees their content. Do not add a reporting entitlement because a purchase-order field names an organization.
The ICF Code of Ethics, revised May 2026, addresses agreements about roles, financial arrangements and information exchange, alongside accurate representations of qualifications and services. It is a professional standard with its own scope, not a universal description of every jurisdiction's law. Use it to challenge vague promises about secrecy, expertise or automatic sponsor access.
3. Explain how the work unfolds
A roadmap connects sessions with meaningful activities. For a conversation package, the client might identify the situation, distinguish a request from an assumption, rehearse a short opening, and later review what actually happened. Explain where the client can change direction or decide not to attempt the conversation.
Give each phase a purpose rather than treating a calendar as a developmental guarantee. A first session does not prove someone has reached clarity, and the second does not certify that a new habit is established. If the client discovers they need an organizational decision or specialist advice, the appropriate output may be a bounded question rather than a workplace experiment.
Keep the public explanation readable. W3C's writing accessibility guidance recommends meaningful titles and headings, descriptive links, understandable instructions and concise language. Those practices help people locate important terms. They do not replace checking whether the terms themselves are accurate or conducting broader accessibility review.
4. Turn attractive benefits into concrete scope
Write the number and length of sessions, their format, the engagement period, resources and any feedback allowance. A useful benefit explains why an item matters, while the inclusion tells the reader what they receive. “Space to prepare a request” and “two individual forty-five-minute sessions” do different jobs; an understandable description can contain both.
Replace phrases such as priority access with an actual service rule. Name the channel, submission limit, response route and timing. If a resource can be downloaded, distinguish retaining a personal copy from continuing access to an account or coaching support. If preparation is optional, say what happens when someone chooses not to complete it.
Define important exclusions without listing every conceivable service. If workplace meeting attendance, legal advice, ongoing messaging or sponsor interviews would change the engagement, state that. A client who needs one of them can then ask before paying. Do not quietly absorb an unstaffed addition because a package is described as comprehensive.
5. Show the actual price and next decision
Give the total charge for the defined service and make payment alternatives comparable. An installment amount is not the whole price. Show the number of payments, their timing and total, and whether that total differs from paying in full. Explain unavoidable charges where relevant rather than revealing them after the reader commits.
The CMA's UK consumer price-transparency guidance addresses total prices including mandatory charges and clear comparisons between differently priced payment options. Its core principles also cover cases where a total cannot reasonably be calculated in advance. Consumer rules and applicable tax treatment need to be checked for the actual offer; a business buyer and a consumer are not interchangeable labels.
Name the next action accurately. Asking a question, booking a suitability call, applying, signing an agreement and paying are separate decisions. A button labeled Reserve your place should not merely open an inquiry form without explanation. Include a usable route for questions about access, format or employer payment before the person decides.

Use a service-fact record before writing copy
For each promised item, record what is delivered, by whom, when, through which route and with what limit. Add the relevant evidence: an available session type, an original worksheet you can actually provide, or an agreed administrative response arrangement. Missing information belongs on the work list, not in an optimistic adjective.
| Draft phrase | Question to resolve | A concrete replacement might state |
|---|---|---|
| Personal support | How many sessions and what other contact? | Two forty-five-minute calls; no ongoing coaching chat |
| Feedback included | On what, how often and where returned? | One response to a draft of up to 200 words, discussed and handed over in session two |
| Six weeks of access | Access to which service or material? | Sessions within an agreed six-week period; a downloaded worksheet may be kept for personal reference |
| From £400 | Can this actual package be bought for that amount? | £800 full payment or two £420 payments, totaling £840 |
| Private coaching | What can a sponsor receive? | No employer reporting in this package; any different arrangement requires separate agreement |
The replacements are original illustrations, not recommended prices or universal contract terms. Check that each describes your actual service. For other structural choices, compare the package examples and templates; the name and copy should follow the chosen scope.
Let the first reader interpretation expose the problem
In this fictional example, Rae is developing a small conversation-preparation package. Tobin provides editorial assistance. Inez is a prospective client invited to give voluntary feedback on the wording; she owes Rae neither a purchase nor an endorsement. The project covers copy development from 2 to 15 June 2035, not delivery of the proposed coaching service.
Rae spends thirty minutes on 2 June recording her actual planned service and available appointment windows. Tobin separately uses twenty minutes reading that fact record. Rae's forty-minute block on 3 June includes drafting and sending this first version to Tobin:
Conversation Reset
Two 45-minute coaching sessions to become a confident communicator. Get priority support, a practical worksheet and feedback between calls. Start from £400. We work privately, with relevant progress shared when your organization is involved. Click Reserve your place to begin. A focused six-week experience for people ready to make conversations work.
Tobin spends twenty-five minutes on 4 June reading the draft, comparing it with the facts and returning comments. The draft promises a result Rae cannot deliver directly, obscures the total and creates unclear contact and reporting expectations. Rae uses fifteen minutes that day to read the comments and send the draft and five questions to Inez, inviting a voluntary fifteen-minute first reader test with no obligation to accept.
The questions ask Inez to explain the session allowance, feedback limit, total payment choices, employer information and next step. Inez chooses to accept on 5 June. Her fifteen minutes include reading the request and draft, deciding to participate and sending her acceptance with the answers. These are her actual interpretations within the fictional case, not a prediction about all readers:
| Decision question | Inez's first answer | Inez's answer after revision |
|---|---|---|
| Session allowance | Two calls of forty-five minutes | Two individual forty-five-minute calls within agreed six-week dates |
| Feedback allowance | Priority means I can send questions whenever I need help | One optional draft of at most 200 words, with one response in session two |
| Payment total | I think the package costs £400 | £800 in full or two £420 payments, £840 total |
| Employer information | My employer gets relevant progress if involved | No employer report is included; different sharing would need separate agreement |
| Next action | Reserve means the place is held when I click | Ask a question; no booking, reserved place or payment occurs |
Only the first session-allowance answer matches Rae's intended facts. A reader's misunderstanding is not evidence that they are careless or resistant. It reveals a gap between this draft and the service Rae thinks she is describing.
Obtain permission for the second test
Rae spends twenty minutes on 6 June reading Inez's answers, writing a substantive reply and requesting another test. She says, “The wording gave you expectations I do not intend to offer. This is not unlimited messaging, and the £400 line does not state the full package price. I will revise it. Would you be willing to spend fifteen minutes reading a new version on 11 June? Declining is fine; this is feedback, not an enrollment commitment.”
Inez spends five minutes on 7 June reading and replying, “Yes, I can give fifteen minutes on 11 June. Please include when the calls can happen; I may need late afternoons.” Rae spends five minutes that day reading the acceptance. Inez has accepted a finite reading task, not free future consultation. Her availability question becomes an explicit drafting requirement.
Rae uses forty-five minutes on 8 June to rewrite the description. Tobin uses twenty minutes on 10 June to read it, check the recorded facts and return a final note that the button must say Ask about this package. Rae's ten-minute block that day includes reading the note, correcting that button wording and sending Inez the final copy below. The copy remains a proposed description; no public checkout or active purchase route is created.
A complete revised coaching package description
Conversation Preparation Coaching
Two individual sessions for people preparing one current work conversation. You might want to make a request, explain a constraint or ask for a decision. We work with your example to distinguish what you know from what you are assuming, explore possible wording and prepare a realistic next step. You decide whether to attempt the conversation. Another person's response and your workplace outcome cannot be guaranteed.
How the work develops
In the first forty-five-minute video session, agree your focus and prepare an opening or request. Between sessions you may try the approach if it fits your authority and circumstances. In the second forty-five-minute video session, review what happened or reconsider the plan if you chose not to act. Finish with your own short practice note. What you receive
Two sessions within a six-week period, with the first and last dates agreed before purchase. Calls are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 09:00 and 12:00 UTC, subject to dates agreed with you. The package includes an original preparation worksheet, which you may retain for personal reference after downloading. You may send one optional draft of up to 200 words at least three calendar days before session two. Rae provides one written response, discusses it during that session and hands it to you there. If you do not submit a draft, use the session to review your situation instead. This package includes no ongoing coaching messages, workplace meeting attendance, legal advice, stakeholder interviews or employer report.
Price
£800 GBP paid in full before the first session, or two payments of £420 GBP: the first before the first session and the second twenty-one calendar days later. The installment total is £840 GBP, £40 more than full payment. These fictional totals include all applicable taxes and unavoidable charges for this described service. There is no automatic renewal. Before deciding
Ask about dates, access needs or employer funding. We will provide the full service agreement, confidentiality, resource-use, rescheduling, cancellation and refund arrangements for review before purchase. An employer paying does not automatically receive your session content. Any different reporting scope needs a separate agreement.Ask about this package
Send Rae a question at hello@rae-coaching.example, using a brief description without confidential workplace documents. Rae answers administrative inquiries within two working days, Monday to Friday, excluding closures disclosed before an inquiry is accepted. Asking does not reserve a place, book a session or collect payment.
This is complete example copy for an inquiry-stage description, not a substitute for the missing transaction documents or a recommendation about cancellation law. A live purchase flow must present its required information and terms. Rae keeps publication held until the remaining agreement and fulfillment checks are complete.
Accept an informed no after the successful rewrite
On 11 June Inez uses her agreed fifteen minutes to read the new description, send the five revised answers shown in the table and add, “I understand it now. I need calls at 17:00 UTC. Can you offer those?” All five answers now match the written facts. This is one completed reader check, not a measured conversion study or accessibility certification.
Rae spends fifteen minutes on 12 June reading those answers and responding: “The package offers the morning windows stated. I cannot offer 17:00 UTC dates for this service. Please do not pay or reserve time expecting that to change. You can decline this package or look for a provider with suitable hours.” She does not invent a diary opening to preserve the sale.
Inez spends ten minutes on 13 June reading and replying: “I will not buy this package because I need late-afternoon calls. The revised description helped me make that decision. Please do not add me to promotional follow-up.” Rae spends five minutes reading the decline on 14 June. There is no purchase, signed agreement, session credit, collected installment or coaching-outcome claim.
Rae then spends fifteen minutes on 14 June recording the findings, retaining the unpublished final copy and sending Tobin this project close: “The five wording questions now match the service record. Inez declined because the offered appointment hours do not fit, and she requested no promotional follow-up. Keep the description unpublished pending the complete terms and fulfillment review. Do not describe this test as an enrollment or as proof of improved sales.” Tobin spends ten minutes on 15 June reading and filing that record. No additional reply from Inez is expected or counted.

Count the editing and receiving work
| Person | Actual copy-project work in minutes | Used / allocated |
|---|---|---|
| Rae | 2 June service facts 30; 3 June draft/send 40; 4 June comments read/test send 15; 6 June first answers read/reply/request 20; 7 June acceptance read 5; 8 June rewrite 45; 10 June note read/button fix/final send 10; 12 June final answers read/availability reply 15; 14 June decline read 5; findings/close send 15 | 200 / 220 |
| Tobin | 2 June fact-record read 20; 4 June first review/send 25; 10 June final review/send 20; 15 June closure read/file 10 | 75 / 85 |
| Inez | 5 June request/draft read, acceptance/answers send 15; 7 June request read/acceptance send 5; 11 June final read/answers/question send 15; 13 June availability reply read/decline send 10 | 45 / 50 |
The measured project uses 320 person-minutes against 355 allocated, leaving 35 for that scope. Rae's ten-minute final-send block includes reading and fixing the button; it is not described as ten minutes of pure rewriting. The two Inez reading rounds use thirty minutes, with fifteen more for actual acceptance and the later decision exchange. Tobin's own reviews and receiving the close are included.
The proposed payment arithmetic is also explicit: two times £420 equals £840; £840 minus £800 equals £40, or 5% of the full-payment amount. None of it becomes revenue in this case. There is no measured claim about future coaching effort, package margin, reader population or publication performance.
Match the words to the actual Coachful Offer
In the Offer editor, use Details or Promise for the intended audience, purpose, formatted How it works and an accurate purchase-button label. About your coach should describe your actual background. A blank offer biography can use the existing public profile, so review that source rather than allowing an old or invented credential to stand.
The inquiry-stage example uses a separate contact address. Renaming a native paid Offer button to Ask does not turn its checkout action into an inquiry. Use a real inquiry route for that decision and wording appropriate to buying on an actual purchase route. Rae has not pasted this inquiry-stage call to action onto an active native Offer.
Configure fulfillment in What they get and prices in Price & sharing. Additional benefits are descriptive lines; they do not grant resources or session credits. Check the actual session type, quantity, resource selection, access terms and payment choices. A template can prefill session-access defaults and a builder-provided session type, so inspect those saved choices instead of treating a familiar template title as proof.
Compare the public-facing explanation with the native offer summary, selected payment option and agreement. A separate website paragraph can become stale after an underlying price changes. Selecting an item, saving a draft, publishing an offer and completing checkout are different states. The fictional project above stops at approved wording for a held draft; it does not claim those customer-view checks were performed.
If you need several tiers, make each additional service and obligation visible. Avoid using a more expensive tier simply to hide necessary support from the entry option. Use a package-pricing review to test economics separately; understandable copy cannot repair an unworkable service design.
Frequently asked questions
Should a description sell outcomes or sessions?
Explain intended usefulness and concrete scope together. Readers need to understand what the work is for and what is actually provided. Keep uncontrolled outcomes proportionate to the evidence.
How long should package copy be?
Use enough space for the important decision questions, organized under useful headings. Remove repetition. A short version can link to clear detail, provided it does not conceal information needed for the decision.
Does every package need a named framework?
No. A plain account of preparation, practice and review may be sufficient. Use a method name only when you can explain it accurately and provide the stated work.
Does one successful reader test make an offer ready?
No. It supplies limited evidence about that reader's interpretation. Legal terms, delivery capacity, accessibility, settings and the actual customer route still require their appropriate checks.
Is an informed refusal a failure of the description?
It may show the wording helped someone avoid an unsuitable commitment. Keep the reason accurate and respect the person's decision about further contact.
