Tiered Coaching Packages Examples: Scope and Real Costs

Useful tiered coaching packages examples show what changes in the work, what each buyer receives and what the whole commitment costs. A higher tier might add repeated practice, a specific document review or an agreed sponsor process. The price does not measure a client’s ambition or guarantee a better personal outcome.

This guide builds a three-option leadership offer, checks the delivery arithmetic and follows one fictional purchase through completion. It then shows how career, founder and group coaching need different comparisons. All names, fees, service records and results are invented illustrations, not customer testimonials, market benchmarks or predicted sales.

Coachful is our #1 recommendation for organizing tiered coaching offers because each plan can have its own configured inclusions, price and buyer comparison. The useful starting point is the service itself: first decide what you can deliver, then configure that exact promise.

Start with a difference a buyer can explain

A tier is a distinct scope within an offer. An installment arrangement is a way to pay for that scope. Three payments for the same six sessions do not create three service tiers. Similarly, an individual coaching engagement and an unrelated retreat may deserve separate offers rather than an artificial basic-to-premium ladder.

Ask a prospect to finish this sentence: “I would choose the larger option because I need…” A useful answer names an actual difference, such as more opportunities to practice or a facilitated alignment meeting. “Because serious clients choose premium” describes pressure, not service fit.

Give every option an understandable purpose and a complete usable scope. An entry package can support preparation for one conversation. It should not withhold an essential promised review simply to force an upgrade. Equally, a short engagement need not pretend to address an entire leadership transition.

Use ordinary descriptions beside brand names. “Three individual sessions over six weeks” answers a practical question that “Clarity” cannot answer alone. Two choices may be enough. There is no universal requirement for three tiers, a fixed price multiplier or a particular percentage of buyers choosing the middle option.

Example one: build three leadership coaching packages

Vera, a fictional coach, works with managers preparing feedback conversations. She offers the following one-time packages. Each amount is an invented final customer total in USD for this illustration, with no further mandatory charges. They are not tax classifications or prices to copy.

PackageComplete scopeIllustrative total
Conversation focusThree 50-minute individual sessions over six weeks; one original preparation worksheet; scheduling messagesUSD 750
Repeated practiceSix 50-minute individual sessions over twelve weeks; the same worksheet and scheduling messages; one feedback review of the client’s own written conversation planUSD 1,500
Sponsored practiceThe complete Repeated practice scope; two 30-minute alignment meetings with the client and one named sponsor; one agreed written sponsor summaryUSD 1,900

The entry option supports a bounded preparation-and-review question. The middle option adds practice over time and defined feedback. The upper option adds a stakeholder process. It does not make the coach a performance evaluator or give the sponsor access to private reflections.

Vera defines the document review as feedback on one client-written plan of up to two pages and 1,000 words, submitted on an agreed date. She returns comments within two business days. This includes one review, not writing the plan for the client or repeatedly editing a performance report.

Scheduling messages are for appointment arrangements. Vera checks them Monday through Friday and responds within two business days; they are not between-session coaching, urgent management advice or weekend availability. Someone needing substantive asynchronous coaching needs a separately designed scope, not an optimistic interpretation of the word support.

For the sponsored option, all involved parties first agree the meeting purpose, information to be exchanged and summary audience. Payment by an employer does not settle those questions. The International Coaching Federation’s Code of Ethics addresses agreements about roles, finances and confidentiality before coaching, as well as clear arrangements for information exchange. Its standards are professional obligations for ICF professionals, not a substitute for applicable law.

Vera states the provider, service period, session length, booking arrangements, cancellation terms and payment conditions alongside the comparison. A package table is a starting point for understanding an engagement, not the whole agreement. Our coaching payment terms guide explores that connection.

The demo Offers page shows separate offers and illustrative prices. It is not the fictional leadership offer or a buyer comparison of tiers.

Cost the work behind each option

Counting live hours alone hides preparation, feedback and administration. Vera writes an internal time budget before deciding whether the illustrative fees are workable. These are estimates for complete engagements, not a promise that every client will take exactly that time.

Coach workConversation focusRepeated practiceSponsored practice

Sponsor meeting preparation and notesNoneNone30 minutes
Agreed sponsor summaryNoneNone30 minutes
Total estimated delivery work230 minutes455 minutes575 minutes

The totals are three hours fifty minutes, seven hours thirty-five minutes and nine hours thirty-five minutes. Closing is coach administration outside the advertised live sessions. Sponsor summary preparation is also separate from the two meetings. None of these activities is silently absorbed into a client’s session time.

This table is not a profit calculation. Vera still has business expenses, selling time, learning, time off, applicable taxes and other costs to consider. Customer payments are revenue, not take-home earnings. Use your own cost records and appropriate accounting advice rather than treating an example fee divided by live hours as an hourly wage.

Check the mix and the calendar

Vera reserves 1,800 delivery minutes for new engagements in a twelve-week planning window, after existing commitments. She reserves each new engagement’s entire estimated work within that window. Three Focus packages, two Practice packages and one Sponsored package would require 690 + 910 + 575 = 2,175 minutes, exceeding the allocation by 375 minutes.

She instead allows two Focus, one Practice and one Sponsored engagement: 460 + 455 + 575 = 1,490 minutes, leaving 310 minutes uncommitted. Their combined illustrative customer totals are USD 4,900. That arithmetic neither predicts demand nor establishes profitability; unsold availability produces no purchase.

The aggregate is only the first check. Vera places sessions, review deadlines and sponsor work in the actual calendar, including holiday availability, before offering start dates. Four engagements can fit the total and still collide in one week. The 310-minute remainder is a planning reserve, not capacity she immediately sells again.

Follow one selection through delivery and review

Ellis, a fictional new manager, wants repeated practice around feedback. He asks whether Sponsored practice will produce a stronger result. Vera explains that its extra USD 400 purchases two alignment meetings and an agreed sponsor summary, not a higher probability of promotion or a better quality of individual coaching.

Ellis wants private practice and one review of his own conversation plan. He does not want sponsor involvement. After discussing all three scopes, he chooses Repeated practice for USD 1,500. The smaller option remains available; the larger option does not match his stated request.

Before purchase, Vera checks the saved buyer comparison. A copied descriptive benefit says unlimited support, although the actual arrangement is scheduling messages only. She corrects that text, previews the selected plan again and gives Ellis the accurate comparison. The mistake is caught before his decision; a configured chat relationship alone would not have made an unlimited service deliverable.

They agree a twelve-week period from 2 November 2026 through 24 January 2027, with six sessions on 2, 16 and 30 November, 14 and 28 December, and 11 January. Both confirm the December appointments are workable. Ellis submits the defined two-page plan on 7 December, and Vera returns the single feedback review on 9 December. He opens it and brings his questions to the next session.

On 30 November, Ellis asks Vera to rewrite a separate four-page employee performance report. She explains that this is outside the purchased review and outside her role in making his employment decisions. They discuss the distinction in the scheduled session. Ellis chooses to write his own report using his organization’s process. No extra review or charge is quietly added.

All six sessions take place. Of four workplace feedback conversations Ellis intended to attempt, three happen before the final session; the recipient postpones the fourth. Ellis describes one exchange as clearer and another as still awkward. Those are his reports, not independently measured leadership outcomes. Completing the package does not prove that its price caused improvement.

After the agreed period ends on 24 January, Vera’s actual delivery record shows 300 live minutes, 102 minutes of individual preparation and notes, 25 minutes of onboarding and administration, 40 minutes of document feedback, and 18 minutes of closing. Total: 485 minutes, thirty more than the estimated 455. The document review and administrative estimates were too small, even though the scope was delivered.

At the 11 January final session, Ellis confirms receipt of the six sessions, worksheet and document feedback. He declines further coaching for now. Vera completes her own capacity review on 25 January, records the thirty-minute overrun and adjusts estimates for future offers. She does not retrospectively bill him for her underestimation or change what he bought. The postponed conversation and mixed experience remain in the record.

Example two: career packages with different jobs to do

A career coach might compare Direction review with Application practice. Direction review could contain three 50-minute sessions over six weeks to compare possible roles and prepare an information-gathering plan. Application practice might contain five 50-minute sessions, one defined review of a client-written resume and one 45-minute interview rehearsal over ten weeks.

These options differ in purpose as well as quantity. Specify whether the resume review covers one document, its maximum length, the number of reviews and the response date. Feedback on a draft is different from rewriting it, submitting applications or representing the person to recruiters. Interview practice does not include access to an employer’s hiring decision.

For example, Keira already has an interview on Friday and wants one rehearsal. She does not need a career-direction program. A coach who offers an appropriate standalone rehearsal can explain that option, its scope and total. If no available service fits the deadline, a referral or decline is more accurate than selling ten weeks of work as a necessary entry ticket.

Do not copy the leadership fees into this comparison automatically. Rehearsal preparation, document feedback and specialist competence may change the workload. Start with complete deliverables, then cost those activities. A tier name should tell Keira what she is buying, not imply a guaranteed placement or salary increase.

Which one looks like you?

Build your platform

Example three: founder coaching and a team workshop

A founder offer might have Individual decision practice and Coaching plus workshop. The first could provide six 50-minute individual sessions over twelve weeks. The second could keep that full scope and add a two-hour decision-roles workshop for a named leadership team, with one preparation meeting and a defined written output.

The workshop needs its own participant arrangements. Identify who commissions it, who attends, how information will be used and who can authorize organizational changes. Team attendance is not evidence that everyone agrees to disclose private coaching material. Facilitation and individual coaching also require the practitioner to explain the role being performed.

Suppose founder Paolo wants help preparing a delegation request but has no authority to commit the other directors to a workshop. The individual option may fit now. The added activity becomes a real option only after the relevant people agree its purpose and participation. The higher tier cannot manufacture their consent or turn the coach into a fractional executive.

Cost the workshop preparation, facilitation, output and follow-up separately. Two hours in the room may require considerably more than two coach hours, and six participants each spend their own two hours. A customer deciding between scopes needs to see the organizational commitment as well as the provider fee.

Example four: group participation versus individual additions

A group coaching offer could compare Cohort participation with Cohort plus individual review. Both might include the same six weekly 75-minute group meetings and original practice materials. The higher scope could add two 40-minute individual appointments during the cohort. It should identify whether these are with the same coach and when they can be booked.

Be clear about the base experience: meeting dates, expected group size, community access, material availability and whether any recordings exist. An individual appointment is a defined additional service. It does not make the group meetings private, erase other members’ access or entitle the buyer to immediate personal feedback after every group discussion.

Alina wants the cohort and can attend its dates, but needs no individual appointments. The group-only choice remains a complete participation option. A second prospect cannot attend the meetings at all; adding individual sessions does not automatically solve that mismatch. Discuss a genuinely suitable format rather than selling the higher tier as a remedy for incompatible dates.

In Coachful, a purchased Program entitlement and enrollment in a particular live cohort are distinct. Check the actual enrollment route and dates. Do not promise an automatic seat in a named cohort simply because a Program appears among an Offer’s included items.

Coachful demo Programs view on desktop showing an enrolled group program and current week
The demo Programs view shows an enrolled group program and current week. Including a Program in an Offer and enrolling a person in a particular live cohort are separate checks.

Make the price comparison complete

Keep a service tier separate from its payment choices. If an illustrative USD 1,500 package can be paid in three equal installments of USD 500 with no additional charge, show both the installment arrangement and USD 1,500 total, alongside the actual dates and conditions. A different installment total must be described as different, not hidden behind a smaller periodic figure.

For UK consumer selling, the Competition and Markets Authority’s price-transparency summary explains including unavoidable charges in the total where calculable and giving prominent calculation information where the nature of the product prevents advance calculation. It also addresses meaningful from prices and showing commitment periods. Check the rules applying to your own customers and offer; a business sponsor purchase is not automatically the same consumer-law situation.

Do not call an option most popular without relevant current records. A recommended option can instead state a fit judgment: “For clients who want repeated individual practice and one written-plan review.” Explain that basis. There is no need to invent selection rates, inflate a crossed-out value or deliberately make another option unattractive.

Copy a package comparison worksheet

Complete one record per proposed tier before opening the offer editor. Compare the records side by side, using the same units. This original worksheet is a planning aid, not a validated pricing instrument.

Field to completeVera’s completed middle-tier example
Who can use this scope?A manager wanting repeated feedback practice and one review of their own plan
What exactly is delivered?Six 50-minute individual sessions, one worksheet and one defined document review over twelve weeks
What does support mean?Scheduling messages checked Monday to Friday, response within two business days; no substantive asynchronous coaching included
What does the buyer pay?USD 1,500 total in this fictional one-time example, with no further mandatory charges
What work must be reserved?455 estimated delivery minutes, checked against whole-engagement and weekly availability
What remains outside the promise?Report rewriting, sponsor reporting and guaranteed workplace outcomes
What will inform the next version?Actual delivery minutes, buyer misunderstandings and whether the defined scope was received

Ask someone unfamiliar with the offer to explain the differences without your help. Have them identify the total, review limit and support arrangement. If they infer something you did not intend to provide, revise the description or scope. This checks comprehension; it does not establish demand or prove that the pricing converts.

Configure the actual package choices in Coachful

Coachful is our #1 recommendation for bringing this comparison into delivery: tier-specific inclusions and prices can sit inside one Offer rather than relying on a paragraph that staff must interpret later. Use the saved plan and buyer preview to connect the promise with actual access.

  1. Create distinct scopes. In the Offer’s Price & sharing step, switch Pricing from One price to Tiers. Coachful supports two to six plans. Name each plan plainly, enter its price and explain its particular purpose.
  2. Configure each plan’s inclusions. Use the tier switch in What they get to select that plan’s actual sessions, resources and other intended items. Review quantities. Descriptive Additional benefits explain the service but do not grant session credits, resources or a support entitlement by themselves.
  3. Keep shared and added work accurate. Use “Everything in…” only if the higher tier actually retains every inclusion below it. Check that a program’s own session allowance is not presented as an extra second allowance. A group option and an individual addition need the appropriate real configuration.
  4. Preview each saved option. Switch tiers in the editor’s Preview, then inspect the buyer comparison and the selected price and inclusions. The public page’s selected plan drives its displayed scope and price; cards can quote the entry plan as From. Ensure the entry scope and applicable total are clear.
  5. Confirm the service arrangements. Agree scheduling, response windows, document limits, information handling and any sponsor process. An Offer selection does not negotiate these details for you. Check the client’s actual purchased plan and access before describing delivery as ready.

Existing buyers retain the plan, price and access they purchased when tiers are edited; new offer text does not rewrite those purchases. For any later change, inspect the actual Change plan arrangement and confirm timing, charge and access before acceptance. Different one-time and recurring changes follow different rules, so do not promise every move is an immediate prorated upgrade.

Explore Coachful’s features alongside the comparison you have written. The practical check is whether a buyer can identify the exact service and whether you can provide it in the agreed period. See our coaching package pricing guide for the broader pricing process.

Frequently asked questions

How many coaching tiers should I offer?

Use the number that presents meaningful, deliverable choices. Two may be clearer than three if you have only two distinct scopes. A single service can remain a single-price offer. Do not add a tier solely to create a visual ladder.

Should the higher tier include unlimited support?

Only describe an arrangement you can actually provide. Define channels, eligible requests, response times, availability and service period. A set number of reviews or specified check-ins is easier to understand than an unqualified promise, and it can be budgeted against actual capacity.

Should every package promise the same outcome?

Explain each purpose and the deliverables within your control. Repeated practice and sponsor alignment are different work, not guaranteed levels of personal change. Client choices, organizational authority and other people’s decisions still matter at every price.

Can a buyer upgrade after starting?

Potentially, if the new scope fits, capacity exists and the actual plan-change arrangement is clear. Discuss remaining work, amounts, timing and access first. Do not assume unused appointments become a cash credit or that editing the public offer changes an existing agreement.

What if a tier takes longer than estimated?

Review the difference between a changed client request and your own underestimated work. Deliver agreed obligations, discuss any genuinely new scope before accepting it, and update future estimates from actual records. A higher displayed fee does not by itself fix an overloaded calendar.
