Trainerize vs TrueCoach: Which Fits Your Coaching in 2026?

Trainerize vs TrueCoach mostly comes down to how you want to pay and how much of your business you want in the app. TrueCoach is the simpler programming tool. It has three tiers capped by active clients, a library of more than 3,000 exercise videos and Stripe payments on every plan. Trainerize starts cheaper, with a free one-client plan. But below its Studio tier, scheduling, payments, video calls and advanced nutrition are all paid add-ons, so your real bill depends on what you switch on. If you coach strength and want one clean tool, TrueCoach is the easier pick. If you want meal tracking, challenges and a price you build piece by piece, Trainerize fits better.
We make Coachful, a coaching platform that puts booking, payments, contracts, programs, courses, community and a website behind one login. So we also show where it beats both fitness apps and where it does not. Vendor prices below are as listed on their pricing pages in October 2026. Figures marked September 2026 come from our earlier profile of the same page and fill in where the vendor no longer prints them.
Which should you choose, by use case?
Choose TrueCoach if you mainly write training programs and want everything included at each tier. Choose Trainerize if you want the lowest entry price, nutrition tracking and the option to add business tools later. Here is the short version by situation:
- You write strength or hypertrophy programs and want a big exercise video library from day one: TrueCoach. Its Starter plan lists more than 3,000 exercise videos.
- You have one or two clients and want to pay nothing or close to it: Trainerize. Basic is free for 1 client, and Grow is $10 a month for 2 clients.
- Nutrition and habits matter as much as training: Trainerize, with meal and macro tracking from Grow and an Advanced Nutrition add-on. TrueCoach relies on MyFitnessPal for nutrition tracking.
- You want to take payments without buying an add-on: TrueCoach, which includes automated Stripe payments on every plan. In our September 2026 profile, in-app payments only worked for coaches in the US, UK, Canada and Australia.
- You run a studio with several locations: Trainerize Studio Plus, which bundles every add-on and a studio-level branded app.
- You sell coaching programs, not just workouts: Coachful. Neither fitness app has a course builder, coaching contracts or a website. Booking costs extra on Trainerize and is not on TrueCoach's feature list.
How do Trainerize and TrueCoach compare side by side?
Both are training-first apps priced by client count. TrueCoach bundles more into each tier, while Trainerize sells a low base price and a menu of add-ons.
How we rank: one login for the whole client journey, between-session delivery, total stack cost, and setup effort (including a free white-glove build).

What do Trainerize and TrueCoach cost in October 2026?
TrueCoach shows three prices: $26.34, $57.99 and $136.99 a month for 5, 20 and 50 active clients, with annual billing. Trainerize starts at $0 for 1 client, $10 for 2 and $25 for 5, then stops printing prices for its larger Pro tiers.
Trainerize pricing
ABC Trainerize lists four plan families on its pricing page:
- Basic, free: 1 client, the mobile app, workouts, basic messaging, and habit and lifestyle coaching.
- Grow, $10 a month ($9 billed annually): 2 clients, plus the AI Workout Builder, custom programs, meal and macro tracking, a Trainerize.me profile, and app and wearable integrations.
- Pro, from $25 a month ($23 billed annually) for 5 clients: adds custom exercise videos, welcome emails, consultation forms, advanced messaging and challenges. Pro also comes in 15, 30, 50, 75, 100 and 200 client tiers.
- Studio Plus, from $275 a month for up to 500 members: 500, 1,000 and 1,000+ client options for studios with 5+ locations, sold through sales. Adds group video calls, recipes and meals, referral links, prospect booking, onboarding and an API, and includes every add-on plus a studio-level branded app.
Two cautions. First, the page contradicts itself. The plan cards show $9, $23 and $248, which matches the stated 10% annual discount. The FAQ says Grow "starts at $10", Pro "starts at $25" and Studio Plus "starts at $275 for up to 500 members". Second, prices for Pro tiers above 5 clients are not printed today. In September 2026 they were $50 a month for Pro 15, $79 for Pro 30 and $135 for Pro 50, and the page's comparison table still shows "Small business $79/month". Ask for a written quote before you commit to a tier above 5 clients.
Then come the add-ons, which is where most Trainerize bills grow:
- Advanced Nutrition Coaching: $20 a month on Grow, Pro 5 and Pro 15; $45 a month on Pro 30 to Pro 200.
- Business (scheduling, referrals, selling products, premium content): $25 a month.
- Video Coaching: $10 a month for 50 hours of video calls and 100 hours of streaming.
- Stripe Integrated Payments: $10 a month, with Stripe processing fees on top.
- Custom Branded App on Pro: $169 one-time setup.
- FitMetrics: from $6 per client.
The trial is generous: 30 days with unlimited clients, no credit card, and the account drops back to the free 1-client plan with no charge. Add-ons are not part of the trial, though, so you cannot test scheduling or payments before paying. Our full Trainerize pricing breakdown goes tier by tier.

TrueCoach pricing
TrueCoach is simpler to read. The pricing page shows:
- Starter, $26.34 a month: up to 5 active clients, with the program and workout builder, client tracker, MyFitnessPal nutrition and habit tracking, client dashboard, 3,000+ exercise videos, messaging and automated payments.
- Standard, $57.99 a month: up to 20 active clients, adding a public coach profile, wearables, a custom-branded app, advanced habit and nutrition tracking, and Zapier.
- Pro, $136.99 a month: up to 50 active clients, same features as Standard.
- Custom: above 50 clients (the FAQ says 250+), contact for pricing.
Those prices carry "1-2 MONTHS FREE" badges and match the annual-billing rates in our September 2026 profile. Billed-monthly prices are no longer visible. In September 2026 they were $29.98, $69.98 and $164.98. TrueCoach offers a 14-day trial with no credit card, and first-time annual subscribers get a 90-day money-back guarantee ("restrictions apply"). The FAQ says there are no extra TrueCoach fees on payments, only Stripe's. The one add-on listed is a discounted NASM CEU library, with no price shown. Our TrueCoach pricing guide has the details.

Here is how the price lists line up:
| Tool | Cheapest paid plan | Plan covering 20 clients | Unlimited or largest tier | Trial and guarantee | Payment fees |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients | Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients | A free trial; monthly plans cancel in one click | 0% platform fee; Stripe or Razorpay processing only |
| ABC Trainerize | $10/month Grow (2 clients); $25/month Pro 5 | Pro 30: not printed today; $79/month in September 2026 | Studio Plus from $275/month for 500 members, via sales | 30 days, unlimited clients, no card; add-ons excluded | Payments add-on $10/month, plus Stripe fees |
| TrueCoach | $26.34/month Starter (5 active clients), annual billing | $57.99/month Standard, annual billing | $136.99/month Pro (50); Custom above | 14 days, no card; 90-day money-back on first annual plan | No TrueCoach fee; Stripe fees apply |
What does each cost at 5, 20 and 50 clients?
On base price alone, Trainerize is a little cheaper at 5 clients, TrueCoach is cheaper at 20, and they are close at 50. Once you add the Trainerize add-ons most coaches need to get paid and book sessions, TrueCoach comes out cheaper at every size. But TrueCoach still has no booking or video, which you would then pay for in another tool.
The examples below use billed-monthly prices where we have them. "Full stack" for Trainerize means the base tier plus Stripe Integrated Payments ($10), Business for scheduling ($25) and Video Coaching ($10). TrueCoach's billed-monthly figures are from September 2026, since the page now shows only annual rates. These are illustrative totals built from listed prices, not quotes.
| Tool | 5 clients | 20 clients | 50 clients | What is still missing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coachful | Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients | Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients | Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients | Wearable sync, stock exercise videos |
| Trainerize, base tier | $25 (Pro 5) | $79 (Pro 30, September 2026) | $135 (Pro 50, September 2026) | Payments, scheduling, video, advanced nutrition |
| Trainerize, full stack (example) | $70 | $124 | $180 | Courses, community, website, email; add $20 to $45 for Advanced Nutrition |
| TrueCoach | $29.98 monthly ($26.34 annual) | $69.98 monthly ($57.99 annual) | $164.98 monthly ($136.99 annual) | Booking, video calls, courses, community, website, email |
Watch the tier cliffs as well. TrueCoach's 21st active client moves you from Standard to Pro, which more than doubles the annual price from $57.99 to $136.99. On Trainerize, your 6th client moves you off Pro 5 and your 16th off Pro 15. The Advanced Nutrition add-on also jumps from $20 to $45 at Pro 30. When you compare, model the client count you expect in a year, not the one you have today.
If you would rather pay one flat plan that already includes booking, payments and programs, you can try Coachful alongside either app.
How do the workout builders and exercise libraries compare?
TrueCoach leads on a ready-made library, with more than 3,000 exercise videos on its cheapest plan. Trainerize leads on automation, with an AI Workout Builder from the Grow plan.
TrueCoach is built around the program calendar. Its Starter plan lists the program and workout builder, a client tracker and a client dashboard, so a coach can write a block, assign it and watch completion from day one. The large video library means most common lifts and movements already have a demo, and you only film what is unusual. That is the main reason strength and hybrid coaches pick it.
Trainerize includes workouts on every plan, even the free one. From Grow it adds custom programs and the AI Workout Builder, which drafts sessions for you to edit. Custom exercise videos, where you upload your own demos, start at Pro. Trainerize's pricing page does not quote a library size the way TrueCoach does, so check during the 30-day trial that the movements you program are covered.
Neither app has a course builder, going by the pricing pages and our earlier profiles, although Trainerize's Business add-on covers selling products and premium content. Both treat the workout as the core unit. That works well if workouts are your product. It is limiting if your offer includes mindset lessons, recorded education or group calls.
For comparison, Coachful's Fitness & Nutrition pack has a workout builder with an exercise library of illustrated exercises. It supports supersets, circuits, AMRAP, EMOM, intervals and tempo, plus client workout logging with set history and PRs. Coachful does not ship stock exercise videos. You attach your own demo videos, which some coaches prefer and others will see as extra filming. For more on Coachful's fitness tools, see the Fitness & Nutrition pack page.
Which handles nutrition and habits better?
Trainerize has more nutrition tooling inside the app, while TrueCoach leans on MyFitnessPal. Both include habit tracking, and Trainerize lists habit and lifestyle coaching even on its free plan.
On Trainerize, meal and macro tracking starts at Grow. The Advanced Nutrition Coaching add-on ($20 a month on smaller tiers, $45 from Pro 30) goes further. FitMetrics is another add-on, from $6 per client, and recipes and meals are listed on Studio Plus. Coaches who build meal guidance into every program can get a lot done inside Trainerize, but each layer costs extra.
TrueCoach's Starter plan lists MyFitnessPal nutrition and habit tracking, and Standard adds advanced habit and nutrition tracking. That suits coaches whose clients already log food in MyFitnessPal and who mainly want to see the numbers next to the training log. It suits coaches who write meal plans less well.
If nutrition is the centre of your coaching, our list of Trainerize alternatives for nutrition coaches covers tools built for that.
A scope reminder that applies whichever app you use: fitness and nutrition coaching is not medical treatment. If a client has a diagnosed condition, a history of disordered eating, is pregnant, or reports pain or symptoms that worry you, refer them to their doctor or a registered dietitian before you change their plan. Keep your programs inside your training and credential.
Coachful's Fitness & Nutrition pack sets nutrition targets up to calories and macros. It covers meal plans, recipes, food lookup and barcode scanning, private progress photos and measurements, and weekly check-ins. On the habit side, Coachful programs combine weekly goals, daily tasks, habits with streaks, and morning and evening check-ins, so between-session work is part of the program itself.

What about payments, scheduling and video calls?
TrueCoach includes payments but no booking or video calls. Trainerize offers all three, but each is a separate monthly add-on until you reach Studio Plus.
On Trainerize, getting paid in the app takes the Stripe Integrated Payments add-on ($10 a month) plus Stripe's processing. Scheduling sits inside the Business add-on ($25 a month), which also covers referrals, selling products and premium content. Video calls need the Video Coaching add-on ($10 a month for 50 hours of calls and 100 hours of streaming). Studio Plus bundles these and adds prospect booking and group video calls.
TrueCoach includes automated Stripe payments from Starter, and its FAQ says it adds no fee of its own. In our September 2026 profile, in-app payments were limited to coaches in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, so check this first if you bank elsewhere. TrueCoach's pricing page does not list scheduling or booking, and our September 2026 profile found no video calls. If you run calls, you would need a separate booking tool and a video tool alongside it.
That second and third subscription is the hidden cost in a Trainerize vs TrueCoach decision. If you run check-in calls, consultations or paid sessions, add your booking tool's price to TrueCoach's. Add the Business and Video add-ons to Trainerize's.
Coachful handles this layer natively. Booking pages support availability rules, buffers, minimum notice and time-zone detection. Calendar sync is two-way with Google, Apple/iCloud and Outlook, and calls run on built-in video or auto-created Zoom, Meet or Teams links. Reminders go out by email, plus SMS and WhatsApp once messaging is enabled. You can sell paid sessions and session credits, and ask intake questions at booking. Payments run through your own Stripe Connect or Razorpay account. That covers one-time payments, subscriptions, payment plans, coupons, refunds, Apple Pay and Google Pay, with a 0% Coachful platform fee. Coaching agreements with e-signature go out before the first call. More on scheduling, payments and contracts.

Which goes further on branding, wearables and integrations?
Both apps support wearables and a custom-branded app. TrueCoach includes both from Standard, while Trainerize charges a one-time setup for the branded app on Pro.
- Wearables: Trainerize lists app and wearable integrations from Grow. TrueCoach lists wearables from Standard.
- Branded app: Trainerize's Custom Branded App is a $169 one-time setup on Pro, and Studio Plus includes a studio-level branded app. TrueCoach lists a custom-branded app on Standard and Pro.
- Public profile: Trainerize includes a Trainerize.me profile from Grow. TrueCoach has a public coach profile from Standard.
- Automation and developer access: TrueCoach includes Zapier from Standard. Trainerize lists an API on Studio Plus.
Coachful is weaker here, and you should know that before you switch. It has no Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura sync, and Apple Health sync is not publicly available. The client app ships under the Coachful listing with your branding, not under your own App Store account. On integrations, Coachful connects with Zapier, Google, Apple and Outlook calendars, Zoom, Meet, Teams, Stripe, Razorpay, Meta Pixel and GA4.
What is the client experience like in each app?
On both Trainerize and TrueCoach, the client opens a training app: today's workout, logging, messages with the coach and habit or nutrition tracking. We have not run client accounts on either. This is what the vendors document.
On Trainerize, clients get the mobile app with workouts, messaging and habit coaching on every plan. Meal and macro tracking comes from Grow, and challenges and advanced messaging from Pro. Group video calls arrive only on Studio Plus or through the Video Coaching add-on. Pro adds welcome emails and consultation forms.
On TrueCoach, clients get the client dashboard, assigned workouts with demo videos from the library, messaging, and MyFitnessPal-linked nutrition and habit tracking. Payments are automated through Stripe. From Standard, clients can use a custom-branded app.
Public sentiment is mixed for both. On Trustpilot in October 2026, Trainerize scored 3.1 from 100 reviews and TrueCoach 2.4 from 19 reviews. TrueCoach's sample is small, so treat it as a weak signal. Neither score tells you how your own clients will react. Use the trials with two or three real clients before you move your roster.
A Coachful client gets a different kind of home. It shows the program and its current week, the next session, progress and goals, documents, courses, the community feed and group chat, all in one branded app. If your clients need more than a workout list between sessions, that difference matters more than any single feature.

Can you take your client data with you?
Check this before you commit. In our September 2026 profiles, neither fitness app offered a complete coach-side export.
Trainerize offers a client data export, but our September 2026 profile found it excludes messages, progress photos and attachments. Our profile found no documented coach-side export for TrueCoach. Either way, if you leave later, plan to rebuild programs by hand and to keep your own copies of anything you cannot export.
Coachful exports your full client data as a ZIP. That covers roster, notes, check-ins, goals, habits, sessions and form responses, and courses export too. Coming in, clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding. If you are leaving either app, our guides to Trainerize alternatives and TrueCoach alternatives cover the options.
Which should you pick for which kind of coach?
Match the tool to how your coaching makes money, not to the feature list. Here are the common cases.
New trainer with one to five clients
Trainerize is the cheapest place to start: free for 1 client, $10 for 2, $25 for 5 on monthly billing. If you only need to deliver workouts and can take payment outside the app, it is hard to beat on price. Once you add payments and scheduling, compare it with TrueCoach Starter and with an all-in-one plan.
Online strength coach with 5 to 20 clients
TrueCoach is the natural fit. You get the full video library, payments and, at Standard, a branded app, wearables and Zapier for one listed price. Budget separately for booking and video calls, and plan for the jump to Pro at client 21.
Nutrition-led or habit-led coach
Trainerize has more nutrition inside the app, but the Advanced Nutrition add-on is where the depth lives. If you write meal plans and track macros for most clients, compare it against dedicated nutrition tools before you decide. Our Everfit vs Trainerize comparison covers another training-first option.
Coach outside the US, UK, Canada or Australia
Confirm TrueCoach's in-app payment coverage for your country before you sign up. In our September 2026 profile, it covered only those four countries. Trainerize's payments run through a Stripe add-on, so check Stripe availability where you bank.
Studio or gym with several locations
Trainerize Studio Plus is built for that, with every add-on included, an API and a studio-level branded app. TrueCoach's Custom tier is the alternative, but it is sold by quote.
Coach selling programs, sessions and education together
If your offer is a 12-week program with weekly calls, check-ins, lessons and a group, both apps cover only part of it. This is the case where an all-in-one coaching platform is worth a look.
Is there a third option? When Coachful beats both, and when it does not

Coachful is a coaching platform where one subscription covers booking, payments, contracts, program delivery with habits and check-ins, courses, a community, a website with funnels and email, and an AI assistant. Coaches get one login and clients get one branded app. It is built for coaches who deliver programs, not just sessions, for solo coaches growing into a small team, and for coaches replacing four to six tools. Fitness coaches add the Fitness & Nutrition pack for workouts, nutrition, progress photos and form checks. See Coachful for fitness coaches.
Where Coachful beats both
- One login for the whole client journey. Booking page, intake questions, signed agreement, payment, program, check-ins, community and follow-up email all live in the same account. Neither fitness app has contracts or a website, and booking is an add-on or missing.
- Between-session delivery beyond workouts. Programs carry weekly goals, daily tasks, habits, morning and evening check-ins and goals with progress bars. Courses with drip and completion tracking, plus cohort groups created automatically on enrollment, sit next to the training.
- Total stack cost. Plans are flat and monthly, with no Coachful platform fee on payments. Booking, video links, email marketing, courses and the website are included in your Coachful membership instead of sold as add-ons (current plans: Lite: $29/month for up to 5 clients; Solo: $49/month for up to 20 clients; Pro: $99/month with unlimited clients; Studio: $199/month with unlimited clients).
- Client status at a glance. Each client record shows goals, check-ins, habits, notes, payments and sessions, with a thriving, active, quiet or at-risk status and an AI briefing before each session.
- An AI assistant that works from your practice data. Michelle builds programs, drafts emails, summarizes recorded sessions and briefs you before calls. Questions and planning are included in the membership, while confirmed builds and changes use AI credits. You can also set up an AI Coach that selected clients chat with between sessions.
- Data you can take with you. A full ZIP export of client data, and import done for you during onboarding.

Here is a short walkthrough of building a program in Coachful:
Where Trainerize or TrueCoach is the better choice
- You need wearable data. Coachful has no Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop or Oura sync, and Apple Health sync is not publicly available. Both fitness apps list wearables.
- You want a stock exercise video library. TrueCoach's 3,000+ videos save filming time. Coachful uses illustrated exercises plus your own demo videos.
- You want an app under your own App Store account. Coachful's client app carries your branding inside the Coachful listing.
- You want a permanent free plan. Trainerize Basic is free for 1 client. Coachful has a free trial, but every plan is paid after it.
- You run a multi-location gym. Trainerize Studio Plus is built for locations, while Coachful's team plans add coach seats for small teams.
- You need clinical records or PayPal. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified, does not sign a BAA and does not support PayPal. If you need HIPAA coverage, ask Trainerize or TrueCoach for a BAA in writing as well.
How to start
Start the free trial, then ask the team to set up your account. Your clients, programs and content are imported for you during onboarding, so you do not rebuild your roster by hand.
Why Coachful stands out: a free white-glove service. On every plan, you can open Create, choose We'll build it for you, and describe what you want: a website, funnel, sales page, program, course outline, coaching flow, form, email sequence, link in bio, lead quiz or event. Attach up to 8 reference links and up to 10 files such as logos, photos, brand guides or copy. The Coachful team builds it inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. Nothing gets invented: no fake credentials, testimonials or prices, and any gaps are left for you to fill. It does not cover recording videos, logo design, ad management or ongoing marketing. In one recent build, a real-estate and money coach got a year-long cohort program with an application form, an eight-page site and a nine-day bootcamp funnel. Read more about the white-glove build service.

For a training business, a performance-style design is a natural starting point, and the team can build on any of the 30 designed homepage templates:

Frequently asked questions
Is Trainerize or TrueCoach cheaper?
On base price, Trainerize is cheaper at 5 clients ($25 a month vs TrueCoach's $29.98 billed monthly in September 2026). TrueCoach is cheaper at 20 clients ($69.98 vs $79 for Trainerize Pro 30, both September 2026 monthly prices). Once you add Trainerize's payments, scheduling and video add-ons, TrueCoach is cheaper at every size. TrueCoach has no booking or video calls, though, so add a separate tool's cost to its price.
Does TrueCoach have a free plan?
No. TrueCoach offers a 14-day trial with no credit card. First-time annual subscribers also get a 90-day money-back guarantee, with restrictions. Trainerize does have a free Basic plan for 1 client.
Does Trainerize include payments?
Not on its own. Taking payments in Trainerize requires the Stripe Integrated Payments add-on at $10 a month, plus Stripe's processing fees. Studio Plus includes all add-ons.
Which has the better exercise library?
TrueCoach lists more than 3,000 exercise videos on every plan, which is its strongest selling point. Trainerize offers custom exercise videos from Pro and an AI Workout Builder from Grow, but does not quote a library size on its pricing page. Check that your key movements are covered during either trial.
Which is better for nutrition coaching?
Trainerize has more nutrition inside the app, with meal and macro tracking from Grow and an Advanced Nutrition add-on at $20 to $45 a month. TrueCoach relies on MyFitnessPal-based tracking. For medical or clinical nutrition needs, refer clients to a registered dietitian. Coaching is not treatment.
Do Trainerize or TrueCoach include booking and video calls?
Trainerize offers scheduling in its $25 Business add-on and video calls in its $10 Video Coaching add-on, and Studio Plus adds group video calls. TrueCoach's pricing page lists no scheduling, and our September 2026 profile found no video calls.
Can I move my clients from TrueCoach to Trainerize, or the other way?
Yes, but expect manual work. In our September 2026 profiles, Trainerize's export excluded messages, photos and attachments, and TrueCoach had no documented coach-side export. Save copies of programs and progress before you cancel.
What is Coachful's free white-glove service?
On every plan, the Coachful team builds what you describe, such as a website, funnel, program or email sequence, inside your own account, usually within about 24 hours. You can attach up to 8 links and 10 files, and nothing is invented: gaps are left for you to fill. It does not include video recording, logo design or ad management.
Does Coachful work for personal trainers?
Yes, with the Fitness & Nutrition pack for workouts, logging with PRs, nutrition targets, meal plans, progress photos and form-check videos with timestamped comments. It is the stronger choice when you also sell sessions, courses or group programs. It is the weaker one if you depend on wearable sync or a stock video library.
Is either app HIPAA-compliant for clinical work?
Our sources for Trainerize and TrueCoach do not document HIPAA compliance, so ask each vendor for a BAA in writing if you need one. Coachful is not HIPAA-certified and does not sign a BAA. If you work with patients or bill insurance, use a dedicated clinical system. Check with an attorney or compliance advisor about your obligations.
